"The most stylish people I know have spent lifetimes searching for what complements their body shape, their professional and personal lifestyle, local climate and how much they can reasonably budget for this pursuit.  Let me stress that this is not about how much money they have, but how attuned they are to their reality. It's an almost zen-like sense of self-awareness. It stands to reason that if you only fill your closet with what works then just grabbing things from that closet will be a million times easier...hence the perception of effortless."- The Myth of Effortless Chic, The Sartorialist's Closer

Last Sunday, while anxiously waiting for Mr. Schuman's arrival with my copy of his newest book (more on that visit later), I landed on the quote page above even though 95% of his book is comprised of pictures. His words truly spoke to my closet philosophy and led me to do a quick scan of my outfit. My Opening Ceremony shorts have been a staple for eight consecutive seasons in addition to the navy blue blazer. I can't ever imagine parting with these two items because they do, in fact, make getting dressed feel effortless. Never has my behind felt too big for the forgiving shorts or do I ever feel unkempt when I throw on this blazer. The scarf is also quickly becoming a solid staple. As I get older, I'm beginning to look at my closet as a direct reflection of my personality and I think we can all become great curators of our own closets. The key is to refine your taste, think thoroughly about versatile pieces, and never buy something just because someone else like a blogger looks good in it. Buy items that evoke a special connection; pieces that you foresee yourself wearing on the most uninspired days. xo
