Ehhhhh so my goal of weekend reviews was a little ambitious. I've tried to keep up with an editorial calendar before but have a really hard time doing that! Until I find a routine that works, I'll keep with my of-the-moment, random, whatever floats my boat posts. They're more reflective of my thinking and lifestyle anyway. Thoughts?

Home is where the heart is. Not sure when it'll be but in need of a visit home for a myriad of reasons but the main ones - appropriately celebrating my nephewboss Cohen's 2nd birthday (already?), meeting my newest nephew Payton for the first time, delivering my talented kid sister's artwork to her first client (ahh! so proud), going on another ninja mission with my kid bro, and ummm a hundred million other wonderful reasons about going home.

Buying yourself flowers is always a good idea. It's still oddly chilly so finding ranunculus at the market instantly brightened up my week.

Coming soon. Here's a sneak peek of an amazing shoot that MCRN Bar was delighted to be a part of with the talented events planning company Mrs. Vintage Nola! The shoot is going to be featured on a very notable blog soon - eeekkkkkk. *big smiles*

On cooking styles. The women in my family are amazing cooks, but they each have very specific styles and dishes they've mastered. There's the oldest who is the Julia Child of our lives and introduced the rest of us to the beautiful world of gourmet at a young age, there's the Southern cook who can cook for an army, two wonderful bakers, and mom who needs no explanation. I, on the other hand, don't necessarily like to cook big meals and I'm not really good at one particular thing. Even macarons. But I am inspired by simple foods (often satisfied with most basic things like a baguette with good butter) and whatever's in my fridge, which I make a concerted effort to fill with fresh produce, eggs, and protein. After explaining to my best friend all the meals I've been making, it hit us - I have a very Californian style of cooking!  Above is an example - a simple edamame salad made of edamame, red onions, cucumbers, and tomatoes tossed together with white balsamic vinegar and seasoned with salt and pepper. What's your cooking style?!

Friends become our chosen family. It doesn't and it won't get too personal in this corner but I don't think I give the people in my life enough air time. I'm generally a reserved person, carefully picking who I open up to and keep in my life. To me, it takes as much thought and effort as picking a significant other so naturally I have to be selective. I'm learning, though, and trying to accept that I can't control everything. Reflecting on the past couple years, it was during the most unexpected and often the most difficult times that I met the thoroughly amazing people I am fortunate to call my friends and be a friend to. It will take a much lengthier post to give justice to them because there is a unique story attached to each one. Today, I'm just thankful for the fundamental growing pains that push me outside my comfort zone and immensely thankful for the friends who have saved me in so, so many ways (including Jameson!).  <3

The weather has been pretty gloomy all weekend, but it makes it that much easier and appropriate to stay home. It felt so good to sleep in,  handle some business, and still have time to whip up a big pot of chicken noodle soup that will last at least three more days.  The best part was rewatching an old favorite Meet Joe Black. I just love Clare Forlani's style in this movie - the easy hair, minimal make-up, and effortless clothes. #inspired #singlegirldinner

similar pieces here: skirt + shoes + top + bag + sunglasses

This is exactly what I want to be wearing right now. Ilona Hamer stays current with a complete headturner of a leather skirt.  The mid-calf length and slits are unexpected; rendering a classic garment special enough to pass down to your future daughter. Her styling is seamless and the separates, when pieced together, make quite the impact.

This past weekend Josh and I had the pleasure of attending a dear friend's wedding in the sweet city of Wilmington, NC. Bri and I met during our very first business class in college. I'm lucky we've kept in touch because she's the kind of friend who'd wake up at 5 AM to watch Maxwell perform at The Today Show with you and the kind of friend who'd listen while you cry about your biggest heartache in the middle of Central Park. She's one of those women you'd wish with all your heart will stay in your life. It's no surprise that she planned one of the most intimate, charming, and simply beautiful weddings I've ever been to because she has impeccable taste. It was one of those weddings where the father of the bride brought you to tears and the couple's love for each other was evident in every detail.

  • spotlight: barista parlor

Lately I've grown a deeper appreciation, ahem, habit for really good coffee thanks to local places like Barista Parlor (519B Gallatin Ave), one of the top coffee shops in Nashville that meticulously extracts the art and science out of coffee.

  • it's in the bag

What's currently on rotation in my bag/make-up bag. I'm not one to spend a ton of money on cosmetics and designer duds but I know a good opportunity when I see one! Stocked up on most of these items when I worked a seasonal position at a high-end department store. Even though they were heavily discounted, I thought long and hard about each purchase. This resulted in my not having buyer's remorse and using the hell out of these goods.

    Details:
    1. Laura Mercier mineral powder - almost out! matches my skin perfectly and is much lighter than other mineral powders
    2. Love, Chloe perfume
    3. Perricone Cold Plasma (from this previous giveaway) honestly haven't used it as much as I'd like mainly because I am inconsistent
    4. Shu Uemura eyelash curler - an old favorite
    5. Tatcha oil sheets - I'm so happy with these oil absorbing sheets, which were included in their 'Ritual' kit - my face has been living the life.
    6. Bobbi Brown fluid liner
    7. Chanel eyeshadow + blush - I don't like to hoard heavy palettes so these are all I need when I want to put my face on.
    8. Burt's Bees
    9. YSL Rouge Pur Couture - for when I want to make an impact!
    10. Chanel datebook - Took the calendar out and use this as my wallet! Worked out to be a tenth of the actual price of a wallet. Resourceful, no?
    11. Louisiana necklace - Obviously head over heels over this necklace. It's really all I need to get by. Get yours here from the charming New Orleans boutique, Hattie Sparks!
    12. Prada Lux Saffiano Bag- After eight months of courtship, I am still in love with this one. It's a keeper.

I've disabled comments but feel free to drop me an email or leave a comment in the 'about me section' if you have any questions about what's in my bag or any feedback in general!

  • spotlight: j&hp clothing

It didn't take me long to take notice of Nashville's distinct style. There is a strong affinity for denim, preferably ankle-length and cuffed, in addition to charming, well-made basics. The active lifestyle here calls for clothes that can withstand the work day while being versatile enough to transition into random nights spent riding vintage motorcycles or former war vehicles in construction sites - true story. After moving into our current apartment, Josh and I were instantly inspired by a certain couple's daily outfits and extensive collection of vintage cars. Those neighbors happen to be Jonathan and Holly Powell, the design duo behind the Nashville-based brand J&HP. It was only a matter of time before we would randomly drop by their shop to snap pictures of the two in their element!

What I admire about J&HP is the cool balance between comfort styles and investment pieces. Holly focuses on developing quirky, ladylike styles for women while Jonathan designs quintessential gentlemen attire including oxfords, sports jackets, and custom suits. Josh and I are anxious to get our hands on coordinating oxfords.

Jonathan and Holly are both wearing J&HP.  Check out their collection here.

My recent trip back home was fueled by two important events - the one month debut of my first niece and my best friend's birthday.  I spent hours staring at this beautiful girl and daydreaming about our future trips to Crew Cuts. She is just perfect. The party was handcrafted by her beautiful mother and her sisters who clearly can start their own event planning business. Everything was homemade - from the cupcakes to the cake stands!
