  • spotlight | breads on oak

I'll be heading home to New Orleans/Houma this weekend and one thing I'm looking forward to is revisiting some of my favorites spots and discovering new ones. Seems like someone upstairs was mad at me because the moment I moved away about 4-5 new bakeries sprouted up. But I didn't stay mad for long. One bakery that I ventured into last fall was Breads on Oak (8640 Oak Street) which brought rustic European breads and pastries to the bustling Oak Street Neighborhood. Hoping to stop by again this weekend to pick up a buttery baguette for my drive back!

  • SPOTLIGHT | rolf and daughters

I may be the first person to ever say this but each visit to New York makes me appreciate my home that much more. The first thing I did upon my return was sit at the bar of Rolf & Daughters (700 Taylor) for what I feel is the best meal in Nashville.  If you're on my list of upcoming visitors there's a good chance I'll be bringing you here because 1.) the food is phenomenal and 2.) I live in the building -- a very dangerous combination. I'd describe the cuisine as a unique, fine-tuned American approach to casual Italian food in a rustic, innately Nashville atmosphere. All menu choices are great but notable favorites include: homemade sourdough slathered with seaweed butter, chicken liver pate (out of this world), squid ink pasta, and the grilled baby octopus w/ pork belly and black garlic puree. Good food for the soul. :)

  • SPOTLIGHT | nashville flea market

They say your home should be a reflection of the places you've been and the life you've lived.  This is ringing true both for my apartment and personal style. Nashville is seriously about that thrift life with the Nashville Flea Market being the ultimate candy store and making it easy for anyone wanting to add a little Music City into their home. It's a haven for cowhide rugs, signature aluminum letters, antlers, custom furniture, and all things vintage. This gem of a market only opens its doors once a month, so if you're around this weekend, be sure to leave some time on your calendar.  A little local Black Friday shopping never hurt anybody! Josh's family is coming to town and I cannot wait to bring them here.

  • SPOTLIGHT | favorite mobile apps

Point blank - I am someone who likes to get things done well, quickly, and efficiently. Maybe it's because I juggle a thousand passions at once, but I like to think that there is some method to my madness.  It's just that once I define a problem, I have an incredulous need to find a solution.  More often than not, a genius has already developed an app, making it that much easier for me to go about my business. It's really brilliant that for every pain point, there is a solution-app that eliminates the middleman fuss. Here are some apps that have saved me time, money, and/or frustration. I hope you will find these useful whether you're starting a business, building your blog, or trying to maintain physical motivation.

    1. Cam Card comes in super handy during conferences or networking events like this past fashion week. It scans business cards and automatically logs information into an internal database similar to a rolodex. Saves you a ton of time and if you happen to need that one important person's information on any given day, it's safely stored in your phone. Shared this with lots of bloggers and friends during fashion week and feel that I've fulfilled my good deed for that week!

    2. Sign Easy is the ultimate time saver. This app gives you the capability to sign and send documents without ever having to physically print, scan, or fax information.  I've been using Sign Easy for nearly two years for my blog, taxes, and even starting MCRNbar.

    3. DropBox is my virtual USB. I cannot for the life of me maintain a physical paper trail but always need to access my files from any given place.  Pretty sure DropBox is going to render flashdrives obsolete.

    4. SmartRunner uses GPS technology to measure and track distance, calories, and goals. It's great when I actually use it!

What are some of your favorite apps?! #sharethelove

  • SPOTLIGHT | Behind the scenes at Rebecca Taylor

One of the most exciting experiences I had at NYFW was the opportunity to head backstage with the Aveda team at the Rebecca Taylor SS'13 show.  I didn't have time to stay for the show but was happy I was able to catch the bustling energy! Looks from Rebecca Taylor's line were created for a fun girl's roadtrip so light, effortless waves were created using soon to be released Vomour extensions and Aveda's signature Volumizing Tonic and Pure Abundance styling spray.

Check out other looks by the Aveda team in the Richard Chai, Nicole Miller, Tibi and Milly shows!
